tweetStrategy: Twitter is a global platform used for sharing information, images and videos. You can choose to follow people who share the same interests/are involved in the same business as you. Following everyone that follows you is discouraged, as you should only follow those you trust and can learn from. On Twitter you may;

*Find consumers along with other professionals including your competition
*Engage with your community to build social capital
*Share and obtain information
*Share thought provoking articles, websites, photographs and personal insights

Consider adding a call to action directing followers on what to do next. Minimize tweeting to four times a day or less, and tweet on days that are best for your industry. Keep in mind that this is personal sphere NOT a sales pitch, so it is important to participate in engaging your followers as tweets should drive interactions (ie. re-tweets, replies, favourites).

One should decided if their twitter presence/purpose is to focus on passion for people, defining the brand, or to influence, inform, and communicate.

Etiquette: Tweets should be honest, interesting and unselfish. Feel free to retweet others (and give credit), find keywords/hashtags to tap into existing traffic and publish your Twitter id on other social media pages to increase your audience. Share facts, insights and statistics that will inspire and inform others. Include great headlines/keywords as well as alternate the time/days of the week you post to reach as much of your audience as possible.  Cultivate relationships with potential and existing customers. Listen to customers comments/questions and attempt to connect with people who need what you have to offer. Use twitter for lead generation in order to promote your business and become part of wider network.

Do: spell RETWEET instead of RT, thank others when retweeted and include hashtags in your tweets, be smart with spelling/subjects so you don’t confuse your followers, share information that will benefit followers, cite sources, keep tweets short, and consider adding images

Do not: use direct messaging to spam people,  cluster tweet (making multiple tweets in a row), or auto DM new followers

Tips: Tweets can be about business or the industry and when retweeting others information, be sure to add commentary in brackets at the end. Use hashtags to reach a larger audience and encourage engagement. Your profile should be completely filled out with an enticing profile picture, header, description, and template (its like a first impression). Content is king, so when figuring out what to post, consider viewing your competitors pages. Add personality to tweets, keep an eye out for trends, and be consistent with your presence (don’t be inactive). Showcase the benefits of your business, and tweet content your followers will love (creating anticipation, rewarding followers with giveaways or tips). Keep up with news/ideas and trends, mix content up as well as respond to each retweet or mention.

Strategy: Tumblr is a social photo collection that allows you to follow those you find interesting and share content you come across and enjoy. When sharing others content or reblogging, always give credit by leaving the original posters title and comments or providing the source of the content shared.  Tumblr is a good place;

tumblr*For creators to find an audience for their content
*To build network connections

By creating and engaging in diverse posts, you can build and expand your audience quickly. Customize your page with a social media share button that allows for effortless sharing across different social sites, reaching out to customers that are already there.

Etiquette: Tumblr is a visual sharing site, not verbose. Content can include photos, quotes, links, music, and videos. Interact with other users to grow your audience/fan base, as well as sharing links to find and contact with you on your other social accounts.

Do:  Provide a source for content borrowed or reblogged, include tags on your posts increase the chances of the content being found

Do Not: Claim or take credit for an image that isn’t yours/fail to provide original posters info, or comment on a post unless the comment adds substance

Tips: Tumblr is a social network and blogging platform where you can give away information/advice. Mix up your content, from how to use/different uses of products, sharing lists, combining facts with images, charts, videos or quotes. Search engine optimization relies on tags and keywords (use 7-12). Collaborate with vendors, partners, friends and colleagues as the more you share, the more your content will be shared with the end result of growing your audience.
