Disney’s engineers Imagineers have a long and magical history of integrating new technology. As an adaptive company, Disney continues to infuse the nostalgia of their first entertainment pieces, such as Snow White or Disneyland, with current and future digital practices. With a variety of engagement strategies, one of their most popular tactics remains immersive video strategies on a variety of platforms.

Nokia's Ozo

Teaming up with Nokia’s OZO, the first professional virtual reality camera, Disney broadcasted a series of premieres for Disney, including The Jungle Book and Alice Through the Looking Glass. The later’s premiere included a live 360 degree viewing of P!nk’s musical performance, which was staged directly adjacent to the red carpet area. The live-streaming event, still available on YouTube, had three different cameras, giving the view a choice of three angles to watch the performance.

Facebook 360

Using Facebook’s 360 degree video, the ever-lovable Goofy gave a tour of Disney World, complete with stops to each of the four parks (Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Hollywood Studios, and Animal Kingdom). This tour involved princesses, going on rides, and even a baby rhinoceros! Shared on Facebook in November 2015, there have been 8.1 million views to date, 80,500 reactions, and over 8,000 comments.

LittlStar

In a not-so-distant future, Star Wars will have their own “worlds” at Disney theme parks. For their newest expansions at both Disneyland and Disney World, Disney utilized LittlStar to give a 360 degree viewing of the 14 acres at Disneyland that are going to be dedicated to Star Wars.
